Join the Work

See now how the parts of My body are coming together.  For each joint is beginning to supply the love that binds the body together.   Although it would seem the bones that are stiff and hard are the strength of the body, it is the soft tissue of the ligaments that hold the bones together as a body.  Today I am calling My joints to bring the body together and supply the love that joins and holds.  Be strong and flexible.  Be aware of those I am connecting with you and through you, for My body is coming together to manifest My kingdom.  For today I am working to build My Kingdom and I need you to join the work.

Ephesians 4:11-16

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Commentary

This prophetic word is about the body of Christ coming together to manifest His kingdom.  To understand the word, we must understand the purpose of the body coming together and then understand our role in bringing this about.

To clarify this prophetic word, I am comparing the body of Christ to a business corporation.  Corporations make sense because it would difficult for each single person to grow their own food, build their own home, build their own car, and countless other things we rely on each day.  But by building a large corporation, you can have different people work in different roles and form different functions of the organization.  Each one can develop and function in the skill that matches there ability based upon the need of the corporation.

The word corporation comes from the Latin with the root word of “corpus” meaning body, as in corpus Christi, the body of Christ.  The word corporation itself is derived from the Latin word “corporationem (nom. corporatio)” meaning : "persons united in a body for some purpose,".  Therefore, let us consider the model of a corporation as a description of the body of Christ that is to fulfill the purpose of God.  The key difference is that no man is the head of the body, Christ is the head of the body.  But how is that possible and what are the roles of the five-fold ministry listed above in Ephesians 4:11?

Consider:

1 Corinthians 12:12-13

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.  For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body-- whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free-- and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

Therefore, it is by submitting to the same Spirit, not the same man, that the body comes together.  But it is the place of the prophets and apostles (Eph. 2:19-22) to lay the foundation of the work, which is to teach the gospel and equip the members for the work that God has called them to.  Ministers are called to help each person learn the ways of the Lord, and to help them recognize and activate their gifts and callings to form each part of the body.

Understanding this, it is now time for each member of the body to get equipped and join themselves into the body based on their calling and gifts.  It is the responsibility of each member to understand their place and join the work.  As with corporations, there are many subdivisions in the body, and each one will produce something different, but it is all joined together by the Holy Spirit and takes it direction for Jesus Christ the head.
