Glory to the Few

The failure of the many gives glory to the few.  Though many tried, none could meet My standard but My Son, to Him be the glory forever and ever.  Though many seek Me and call upon My name, only a few will seek Me with their whole heart and find Me.  But rejoice, for these are the days of the glory for the few, though many fall away and are led astray.  Rejoice because the odds of the world are against you, but My favor is on you.   Success in My Kingdom is not measured in numbers, but in glory, and he that brings the greatest glory to Me and My Kingdom, is the greatest in the Kingdom.

Therefore, do not fear or be discouraged when the odds of the world are against you, but rejoice, for the time of great glory is at hand.  For as I charged Joshua, I now charge you to be strong and courageous.  For I have set the scene for glory and your time is at hand.

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

Matthew 7:13-14

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Commentary

This prophetic word is both encouraging and discouraging because it reveals that God brings victory to the few, but that many will perish.  But this is a common theme is the bible.  God always seems to work with small numbers when he decides to use man to fulfill His plans.  This is illustrated with the story of Gideon:

Judges 7:12

The Midianites, the Amalekites and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.

Judges 7:2-7

The LORD said to Gideon, "You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her, announce now to the people, 'Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.'" So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.

But the LORD said to Gideon, "There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will sift them for you there. If I say, 'This one shall go with you,' he shall go; but if I say, 'This one shall not go with you,' he shall not go."  So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the LORD told him, "Separate those who lap the water with their tongues like a dog from those who kneel down to drink."  Three hundred men lapped with their hands to their mouths. All the rest got down on their knees to drink.

The LORD said to Gideon, "With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the other men go, each to his own place."

We don’t know how many there were is the army that Gideon defeated, but judging by the description in Judges 7:12, there must have been more than 100,000.  Yet God revealed that He did not want Israel to think the victory was won by her own strength, so He reduced the Israel army to only 300 which must have been somewhere between odds of 500 and 1000 to 1.  These were odds such that only divine intervention could explain the victory.   So I believe God is saying that He sets up the situations such that the glory goes to Him and we should be honored and thankful that He chooses to use us in the miracle.

This prophetic word also says that the odds in the situation can also determine the glory that is given.  Jesus was the only one to fulfill the law of the millions that tried.  But this brings up a difficult dilemma for us.  What about the majority who are on the other side against God?   Yet we continually read about or go to movies that celebrate heroes that have defeated many other men.  I guess it takes a lot of “bad guys” to make an action movie that we may glorify our hero.  My only understanding of this from God lies in Chapter 9 of Romans which I will not include here.

In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus states that many are on the road that leads to destruction and many will perish.  But only a few even find the road that leads to life.  Once again, we must reconcile in our mind that most of those that are on the earth, and many of those you know, will not find the road to the Kingdom.  We should therefore seek diligently to witness to, and pray for, those whom we know and love (and even don’t love).  We should also be very thankful that we have been chosen to be included in the family of God.

The final instructions in this prophetic word tell us that we must exhibit faith in God by being strong and courageous in doing what He has called us to do.  The odds against us only increase the glory for God.  For when God is with us, who can stand against us?
