Joy Comes With the Mourning

Mourning comes from separation.  The separation of a loved one, the separation of a marriage.  But though your separation from the world may bring mourning for the moment, I shall fill the void with My joy.  So fear not the loss of the things of this world that bring you joy, for I will replace them with a greater joy that does not fade, but grows ever stronger.  This is a season to separate from many of the things that used to bring worldly joy, for the glory of the world is fading.  The descendants of Jacob mourned for the loss of the leeks and onions of Egypt, but I was ready to give them an abundance of blessings of greater joy, of greater pleasure.  The memory of these encounters with Egypt were not as they recalled.  For when they were in Egypt they cried out to Me for deliverance.

So know that today I have heard your cry and I am bringing you deliverance from Egypt.  Though you mourn the loss, know that what I have is real and is greater than any loss.  Don’t look back as Lot’s wife, but look forward.  The things of this world are suffering the judgment of separation from Me.  Separation is coming and you must choose what you will hold on to and what you will let go of.  Choose Me and choose righteous, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Numbers 11:4-6

The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, "If only we had meat to eat!  We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost-- also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.  But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!"

Matthew 19:28-30

Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.  And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.  But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.”

Commentary

This is a prophetic word for this season.  Not just the holiday season, but the spiritual season we are in.  God is calling us to let go of the things of this world.  There will be some mourning from the separation and loss, but God promises to fill the void with better things.  The world is actually on a decline in many ways, particularly spiritually.  Though there are many in the world turning toward God, the governments of this world are turning away from the true and living God.  This will ultimately bring decline and finally judgment.

In this word the Lord refers to the Israelites in the wilderness having left Egypt.  Here the land of Egypt in a picture of the world to us.  When the Israelites were still in Egypt, they cried out to God to deliver them.  But when He did, they mourned and even longed for the food in Egypt.  But this word says that their memory of Egypt was not accurate, but the memories were deceiving them.  Egypt was a place of bondage and slavery, but their memories were focused on the good moments while the truth of the  situation was suppressed.  For most of us salvation came from a difficult time when we cried out to God and He delivered us, yet instead of sharing in His righteousness, peace and joy, we long for what are memories tell us were great times, but these memories are deceiving us.

The Israelites never did understand that the wilderness was to be a honeymoon with God before He carried them over the threshold of the Jordan river into their new home with Him.  God had removed all distractions and had provided for their every need.  Yet they missed Egypt.  Image if on your honeymoon, your new spouse wanted to hook-up with their friends and even complained that there was nothing to do but to be together.  Not a great start to a marriage.

So now is a time to enjoy the presence and intimacy of time with God.  In Matthew 19:28-30, the Lord promised that it will be well worth making the sacrifice.  So consider the opportunity of this word and choose wisely.
